Description Mobile location estimation or mobile positioning is a crucial technology for mobile computing. The research is to provide the estimation of the mobile station’s location (MS) under the GSM network in Surabaya. The design of location model based on the common attribute of all cellular radio networks, the Received Signal Strength (RSS). The Three Dimension Ellipse Propagation Model (3D EPM), which is an extension of the Ellipse Propagation Model is a geometric model which considers the directional transmission property of the antenna. It enhanced the traditional propagation model by resembling the contour line of signal strength as an ellipse rather than a circle and hence becoming more realistic. 3D EPM is a simple approximate relationship between the RSS and the MS-BS distance. We use a Three Dimension Geometric Algorithm (3D Geometric), which is an extension of the Geometric Algorithm, to calculate the location of the Mobile Station. In order to get a stable and accurate estimation, we iterate the value based on the 3D EPM & 3D Geometric result. With the technical support from the local mobile phone operator, this experiment can be conducted in different kind of environments in Surabaya.
